Safety and Recovery Basics
Recovery Points on your vehicle. If you get stuck you may need a pull from a friend. Have tow hooks front and rear.
Seatbelts in good condition--worn at all times when the vehicle is in motion. State law.
Roll bar or factory hardtop.
Spare tire
Jack and tools for changing a tire
Skid plates
Tow strap (no metal ends)
Signed Tahoe Donner liability waiver in effect for all participants.
Fire extinguisher. It is easy to set brush on fire accidentally.
Recommended Gear
Tool kit, hand cleaner, rags
Tire deflation gear
Portable air compressor and a tire pressure gauge
First aid kit
Work gloves
Hand saw, folding shovel
Jumper cables
If you have a winch, have a tree strap, shackles, and a snatch block
Stuff you might forget
Full tank of fuel
Water--at least 1 quart per person
Other non-alcoholic drinks
Lunch and maybe snacks
Folding chairs for lunch
GMRS or CB radio. We normally use GMRS channel 20, code 20.
Bug repellent
Sunscreen, sunglasses, hat
Toilet kits (TP, sealable bags, hand sanitizer)
Trash bags
Maps/GPS/guidebooks
Spare Key
If you bring a dog: leash, water bowl, treats, towel
