We had 13 vehicles (23 adults, 2 kids and 6 dogs) on our “hard way” to Virginia City driving parts of the historic Ophir and Jumbo Grade Wagon Trails.  Starting at the Jumbo Grade OHV Trailhead near Washoe Lake, we did the main trail which includes portions of Ophir Grade, into the south end of Virginia City seeing lots of old mining diggings along the way.  Then we spent a couple of hours exploring Virginia City before heading up Spanish Ravine to the high trail and a to the top of Ophir Hill (7772’).  We passed a majestic herd of wild horses on the mountain side.  It was a steep rocky climb but everyone made it safely.  The views from the top were definitely worth the effort.  In all we traveled 17.4 miles with 2964’ of elevation gain in our 4 1/2 hour adventure.  It was a great day!
